Job Summary
The Research Photographer will be based in the Clinical Research Unit (CRU) within the Department of Ophthalmology and will support a broad range of clinical research activities while providing patient care and advanced ophthalmic imaging.
Responsibilities include:
- Perform ophthalmic examinations such as taking medical and ocular histories, medication reconciliation, obtaining visual acuity (BCVA, ETDRS), assessing motility, pupils, confrontation fields, performing manual refractions, tonometry, lensometry, Humphrey visual fields, and administering ophthalmic drops.
- Capture high‑quality ophthalmic images using equipment such as Heidelberg OCT, Optovue OCT‑A, Humphrey Visual Field, Oculus Pentacam, Specular microscopy, fundus photography, fluorescein angiography (FA), ICG, slit lamp photography, and other investigational, non‑FDA‑approved imaging devices in accordance with research protocols.
- Coordinate clinical research visits, maintain regulatory documentation and binders, ensure accurate data entry into electronic data capture (EDC) systems, update electronic health records, manage ophthalmic equipment and medical supplies, and ensure HIPAA and GCP compliance.
- Support physician scheduling, coordinate referrals, retrieve relevant medical records, communicate via in‑basket messaging, onboard new staff, and contribute to workflow improvements that enhance the research participant experience.

Required
Education
- High School Diploma
Experience
- 2 years of experience in ophthalmic imaging with proficiency in Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), fundus photography, external and slit lamp photography, and other ophthalmic imaging procedures.
- Experience with ophthalmic imaging procedures, including IOL Master or Lenstar and corneal topography, digital fluorescein angiography (FA) and ICG angiography within a clinical setting.
Licenses and Certifications
- (CRA) CERT RETINAL ANGIOGRAPHER within 1 Year
- (OCT) OPTICAL COHERENCE TOMOGRAPHER within 1 Year
Preferred
- College or vocational training in ophthalmic diagnostic photography and angiography
- 1 year of clinical trials/research experience
- Coordinate patient scheduling for diagnostic photography and angiography of eye. Maintain patient records.
- Perform ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic studies as designated by the ordering physician, uploading images to the Electronic Medical Record for review. Review with ordering physician the quality of work performed.
