Job Summary

The Sterile Processing Supervisor works with minimal supervision to ensure the smooth day‑to‑day operations of the Sterile Processing Department at the Zale Lipshy Pavilion. This role reports directly to the Sterile Processing Manager. The Sterile Processing Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and ensuring efficient workflow, compliance with departmental protocols, and the safety of the staff and patients.

SCHEDULE: 3rd Shift, 10:00 p.m.

-6:30 a.m., Monday-Friday

Required EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION
  • Education:

    High School Diploma
  • Experience:

    5 years experience as a Sterile Processing Technician
  • Licenses and

    Certifications:

    CRCST with Healthcare Processing Association (HSPA) or CBSPD equivalent upon hire; CHL Certified Healthcare Leader with HSPA or CBSPD equivalent within 1½ years; CIS Certified Instrument Specialist or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor with HSPA or CBSPD equivalent within 1½ years
Preferred
  • Experience:

    3 years of previous supervisory or management experience
Job Duties
  • Conducts daily supervisory rounds in the sterile processing area to ensure cleanliness and efficient operation.
  • Identifies and resolves problems promptly, seeking assistance from the Central Sterile Assistant Manager when necessary.
  • Prepares and adjusts weekly staffing assignments to meet operational needs.
  • Assists with the repair, loan, and borrowing processes for surgical supplies, equipment, and instruments.
  • Supports the performance evaluation and goal‑setting process for Central Sterile Processing staff.
  • Provides coverage during staffing shortages and is available for off‑shift support when required.
  • Maintains effective communication with manufacturers, the materials management department, and the Central Sterile Coordinator to monitor inventory, equipment, instruments, and vendor returns.
  • Ensures that all staff comply with departmental dress code and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Oversees proper handling of processing supplies, equipment, and instruments, ensuring delicate instruments and scopes are treated with care.
  • Supervises, coordinates, and directs the duties of the Central Sterile Processing staff. Serves as a subject matter expert, resource, and preceptor for staff.
  • Collaborates with Operating Room Liaisons to address instrument and additional needs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to ensure optimal department function.
