$18.00/hr – $24.00/hr (actual pay based on skills and experience)

The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for attending to patients in a timely and professional manner while providing a first‑class customer service experience. This position performs measurements and tests that provide the physician with the information needed to arrive at a diagnosis and to prescribe treatment.

• Greet all patients and guests with the highest level of customer service, anticipate and address service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and show genuine appreciation.
• Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family history, allergies and medications.
• Perform ophthalmologic tests such as visual acuity, applanation tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields, corneal topography, OCTs, lensometry, and other tests as directed.
• Assist with patient pre‑ and post‑op counseling, procedure set‑up, and in‑office procedures. Obtain consents when needed.
• Calibrate diagnostic equipment per manufacturer guidelines and perform instrument sterilization as required.
• Participate in training and meet requirements for MIPS measures, HIPAA compliance, and protected health information.
• Open and close special testing rooms; maintain stocking of exam lanes and order in work areas.
• Document the patient exam in the EHR, scribing all elements including procedure orders, e‑prescriptions, and scheduling the return to clinic. Ensure all entries are accurate.
• Respond to internal communications in a timely manner.
• Ensure company COVID‑19 protocols are followed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of ophthalmology terms, conditions and clinical flow (preferred).
• Professional verbal communication skills, capable of educating patients in a friendly and positive manner.
• Ability to document activities clearly in an electronic medical records system (preferred).
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Typing, computer, and data entry proficiency.
• Bilingual English/Spanish (preferred).

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum one year of experience in an ophthalmology or optometry setting.

Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) certification (preferred). BLS certificate.

This position has no direct reports or supervisory responsibilities.
