Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and caring for pediatric pulmonary patients and their families. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in collaboration with the pulmonologist will provide management and education for complex patients as needed. The APP will also work on the inpatient pulmonary consult service team with the consult attending and pulmonary fellows to provide recommendations for patients with pulmonary and respiratory diagnoses throughout the hospital.

This position requires a multidisciplinary approach and strong critical thinking skills to manage the care of patients with complex, chronic pulmonary conditions and multi-organ system involvement.
* New Grad Rate $136,500*

  • Master's degree in nursing or higher degree and Documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program and Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
    OR
  • Master's degree graduate of a Master’s or higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant(ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.
Licenses/Certifications
  • Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (
    CPNP-AC or dual AC/PC
    ) by Texas State Board of Nursing upon hire and authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire.
    OR
  • National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and certified licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board (
    PA-C) upon hire.
    AND
  • Current Basic Life Support (
    BLS
    ), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (
    PALS
    ) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers.
Preferred Experience
  • Prior Advanced Practice Provider experience in pediatric pulmonary, critical care, or complex care with ventilator management experience.
Job Duties
  • Diagnoses and treats critically ill patients, develops and manages treatment plans, and performs advanced procedures.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans for patients.
  • Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
