Job Summary

Work under limited supervision in the analysis, design, planning, implementation, and maintenance of all facets of the information technology infrastructure within Information Resources. Also, plan, coordinate, and direct all daily operational activities of IR technology infrastructure and provide direction and solutions that enhance mission‑critical operations of the IR department. Reporting to the UT Southwestern Institutional Chief Information Officer, work closely with other IR Assistant and Associate Vice Presidents and other key business decision‑makers in identifying and implementing cost‑effective technology solutions for all aspects of the business.

This position oversees the network, telecom, servers, operating systems, and central storage operations used by the University’s mission critical applications. These resources may be ‘on premise’, remotely operated, or cloud based.

Essential Functions

Job Duties
  • Work closely with the IR Chief Enterprise Architect and AVP Leaders to develop and maintain the IT department’s strategic road map, ensuring information technology capabilities continually support the overall business’s goals and objectives.
  • Work closely with the AVP Leadership team to create and implement IT policies and procedures that enable strong security and risk‑management capabilities.
  • Explore new technologies and software as appropriate and in conjunction with AVP IR Leadership, oversee the architecture and implementation of ongoing support of the network, servers, and communications infrastructure in order to ensure high performance of the IT department.
  • In cooperation with the Chief Information Security Officer and the Associate Vice President for Safety and Business Continuity, create and implement an IR business continuity and disaster recovery plan.
  • Oversee management of the University’s IT operational activities. These activities include, but are not limited to, performance monitoring, planned/emergency upgrades, patching as needed, etc. Continually explore technologies and techniques leading to more efficient operations.
  • Oversee operation and monitoring of mission critical server resources with a strong emphasis on virtualization whenever practical.
  • Establish security architecture and implement procedures and controls that ensure information and data are secure and in compliance with the security and storage regulations of UT Southwestern.
  • Work to analyze, enhance, and tailor current practices and existing systems in order to increase operating efficiencies as well as reduce and cut costs within Information Resources.
  • Oversee operation and management of the University’s central data storage facilities, including on‑site data center, as well as management of database administrators servicing the University’s central applications suite.
