JOB SUMMARY

The Assistant Director of Digital Accessibility provides institution-wide leadership to ensure accessibility is embedded across all digital environments. This role works in partnership with academic, research, clinical, and administrative leaders to establish strategy, oversee implementation, and promote best practices that advance equitable access to digital resources for all members of the community.

Duties include:

  • Program Leadership & Compliance
    Shape and guide the institution’s digital accessibility strategy and roadmap. Ensure institutional alignment with federal and state accessibility standards and best practice. Establish policies, procedures, and governance frameworks that advance accessibility.
  • Operations & Oversight
    Provide oversight for accessibility initiatives, assessments, and remediation across digital platforms. Work cross-functionally to integrate accessibility into procurement, vendor management, and technology life cycles. Monitor institutional progress through reporting, metrics, and continuous improvement.
  • Training & Campus Engagement
    Build upon established accessibility training programs to expand awareness and capability. Collaborate with leadership, Information Resources and business stakeholders to sustain institution-wide education and resources. Advise faculty, staff, researchers, and technology teams on accessibility practices and tools.
  • Collaboration & Governance
    Partner with leaders across academic affairs, business affairs, health system affairs, institutional advancement, compliance, legal and communications domains to support accessibility initiatives. Represent Information Resources on committees and governance groups related to accessibility. Stay current on emerging accessibility regulations, technologies, and trends, and share expertise across the institution.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education
    Bachelor's Degree in business, healthcare, education, information technology, or a related field. Additional years of directly related experience may be considered on a year for year basis in lieu of stated degree requirement.
  • Experience
    7 years of progressively responsible experience in digital accessibility, web development, instructional technology, information technology, development, or a related field. At least 2 years of supervisory/managerial experience is required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Education
    Master's Degree in information technology, accessibility, higher education administration, or a related field.
  • Experience
    Experience working in an academic medical center, research university, or healthcare setting. Familiarity with accessibility in clinical, research, and academic learning environments. Demonstrated expertise with WCAG, Section 508, and ADA requirements. Experience with accessibility testing tools and assistive technologies (e.g., screen magnifiers, captioning tools, etc.).
  • Licenses and Certifications
    Professional certifications such as CPACC, WAS, or CPWA from IAAP, preferred.
