Job Description

Working under the supervision and direction of more experienced attorneys, the Attorney II assists in handling complex legal assignments, primarily focused on misdemeanor prosecution, courtroom representation, and court docket management.

• Manages court docket, court schedules, and ensures deadlines are met.
• Trains and assists in training less experienced misdemeanor prosecutors.
• Evaluates assigned cases by reviewing documentation, conducting legal research, interviewing witnesses, gathering evidence, and determining appropriate actions.
• Drafts, files, and responds to motions, briefs, and other legal documents for trial and/or hearing.
• Explains legal process to potential witnesses, prepares witnesses for court testimony, and keeps clients or victims/families informed of case status.
• Gathers, prepares, and presents evidence, exhibits, and related material for trial or hearing.
• Represents the State and clients in trial and hearings, including conducting jury selection, presenting opening statements, conducting direct and cross‑examinations, and presenting closing arguments.
• Participates in settlement or plea‑bargain negotiations.
• Prepares necessary legal documents for settlement or plea‑bargain agreements and ensures signatures are secured and documents filed.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• Graduation from an accredited law school.
• Six (6) months of experience practicing law.
• Current license to practice law in the State of Texas.
• Experience prosecuting all levels of misdemeanor offenses, including jury selection.
