The Transportation Officer is responsible for securely transporting detainees and ensuring vehicle safety and maintenance.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities- Conduct pre-trip, during-trip, and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Provide written Daily Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and report safety defects.
- Ensure permits and licenses are valid before trips; notify supervisor of issues.
- Verify safety equipment is in place; report problems.
- Complete accurate paperwork and reports, submitting them as per policies.
- Secure detainees properly during transport, ensuring all paperwork is complete.
- Follow all safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures during transportation.
- Report accidents immediately, providing detailed verbal and written information.
- Manage vehicle servicing and pickups.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; valid state requisites.
- At least 3 years of experience handling prisoners or as a law enforcement/military officer.
- Must be at least 21 years old and a U.S. citizen.
- Valid U.S. driver license and 80 hours of certified driver’s training.
- State Firearms and Security Guard licenses.
- Completion of approved training in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
- Clean driving record for the past 3 years; no DWI/DUI or major violations.
- Pass a company and DOT drug and alcohol test.
- Ability to work overtime, travel, and handle physical and mental stress.
- Reliable attendance and alertness during shifts.
- Ability to work up to 16 hours in a 24-hour period.
- Ability to work with computers and obtain a USDOT medical certificate if required.
