Position: 1824 Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Manager

Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) Manager

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced SHE Manager to champion a world‑class safety culture across our organization. This critical role is responsible for the development, implementation, and maintenance of all SHE programs, ensuring stringent compliance with applicable regulations (OSHA, EPA) and internal standards (ISO 45001/14001).

The SHE Manager drives continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental performance through risk reduction, proactive employee training, and incident prevention. This role is a key partner to all departments, influencing positive change and accountability at every level.

Note: This is an individual contributor role with no direct reports. The normal shift is Monday–Friday, but the candidate must be willing to occasionally work off‑shifts to support our multi‑shift operation and act as a first responder/investigator when necessary.

Key Responsibilities

Program Management & Compliance

  • Develop, maintain, and champion company‑wide SHE policies, procedures, and programs aligned with OSHA, EPA, ISO 45001, and ISO 14001 standards.
  • Conduct regular site inspections, comprehensive audits, and risk assessments to proactively identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain communication with regulatory agencies and ensure accurate and timely reporting of incidents, metrics, and compliance documentation.

Incident Management & Prevention

  • Lead the investigation of all accidents, incidents, and near misses, documenting findings and implementing robust, data‑driven corrective actions.
  • Manage workers’ compensation claims and return‑to‑work programs in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Coordinate and lead emergency response drills and oversee preparedness plans.

Culture & Training

  • Develop and deliver impactful training programs on safety procedures, emergency response, and regulatory compliance to diverse teams.
  • Facilitate safety committee meetings and lead cross‑functional initiatives to strengthen a culture of safety awareness and accountability.
  • Partner with leadership and supervisors across shifts to proactively resolve safety concerns and continuously improve working conditions.

Continuous Improvement

  • Monitor and analyze safety and environmental performance indicators (e.g., TRIR, LTIR), identifying trends and opportunities for systemic improvement.
  • Lead internal audits for ISO 45001 (Safety) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) compliance.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management, Environmental Science, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Experience: 5–10 years of progressive experience in occupational health, safety, and environmental management, specifically within a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong, demonstrated knowledge of OSHA, EPA, and other key regulatory requirements.
  • Preferred: Certified training or professional credentials in ISO 45001 and/or ISO 14001 standards.
  • Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and specialized safety management software tools.
Core Competencies & Profile

Leadership & Influence: Inspires safety ownership across all levels; strong communicator who can influence, educate, and engage diverse teams across a multi‑shift operation.

Analytical & Data‑Driven: Exceptional analytical mindset; ability to identify risks, interpret performance data, determine root causes, and recommend effective, measurable solutions.

Regulatory Knowledge: Deep and current understanding of all applicable federal, state, and industry‑specific safety standards.

Continuous Improvement: Proven track record of developing, leading, and proactively enhancing systems and processes to reduce incident rates and minimize risk.

Crisis Management: Maintains calm and control during emergencies, guiding effective and organized responses.

Work Environment & Performance Metrics

The position operates in both office and plant environments and requires regular presence on the production floor to observe operations, conduct audits, and engage with employees. Exposure to noise, machinery, and variable temperatures may occur, requiring the use of standard personal protective equipment (PPE). Must be comfortable working in a fast‑paced environment.

Success in this role will be measured by:

  • Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR) and Lost‑Time Injury Rate (LTIR).
  • Audit compliance scores and corrective action closure rates.
  • Improvement in safety culture survey results and employee engagement.
  • Environmental compliance and reporting accuracy.
