Job DescriptionU.S. Pipe and Foundry are seeking a Safety Manager. The successful candidate will play a key role in assisting plant leadership in driving and creating a safe work environment for the facility.
Essential Responsibilities- Develop and implement a system to monitor, evaluate and revise site safety programs annually, with special attention to high‑risk programs (LOTO, Hot Work, Confined Space, Fall Protection) to ensure safety compliance.
- Facilitate plant housekeeping audits.
- Perform ergonomic assessments of the plant and write plans to reduce issues found.
- Develop processes, conduct, and facilitate effective incident investigations and follow‑up on near‑miss events, property damage, and injuries.
- Schedule, track and ensure timely implementation of all plant‑wide regulatory required safety training.
- Develop safety training matrix.
- Develop and implement effective systems for safety orientation for new and transferred employees and contractors.
- Lead training development and implementation.
- Coordinate safety/industrial hygiene monitoring as required.
- Conduct PPE assessments for all jobs and communicate requirements.
- Monitor ongoing compliance.
- Oversee the worker’s compensation program at plant level, including reporting, reserve management, ongoing monitoring, restricted duty management, and collaborate with the occupational nurse manager on medical management of claimants.
- Maintain effective communication processes for all safety‑related functions, including clear procedures for emergency response, injury and near‑miss situations.
- Lead and coordinate various safety meetings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety or Environmental preferred but not required.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) status preferred but not required.
- 5‑7 years of safety and environmental experience implementing programs in a heavy manufacturing setting.
- 2‑4 years of supervisory or managerial experience as a safety professional.
- Proven leadership and self‑direction.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of material handling equipment, crane operation and capabilities.
- Ability to supervise others and facilitate teamwork.
- Familiarity with OSHA regulations and personal protective equipment.
- Experience developing and implementing safety programs and policies.
- Strong knowledge of hazardous materials and MSDS information.
- Familiar with industrial safety concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Strong knowledge of inspecting facilities and recommending corrective actions to ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations.
- Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) highly preferred.
