HHW Facility Supervisor – Household Hazardous Waste
Oversees the day‑to‑day operations of the assigned Household Hazardous Waste facility within the Dallas County area. In the absence of the HHW Assistant Manager, assumes the crucial responsibility of ensuring the efficient and safe operation of the facilities while effectively managing staff. Collaborates with management to achieve the program’s overarching goals. Trains staff members in the safe and proper handling of waste materials, with an emphasis on safety protocols and best practices.
Oversees and evaluates hazardous waste management processes, equipment, and personnel, ensuring efficiency and regulatory compliance. Reviews and updates emergency response plans, prioritizes safety and rapid responses. Assesses potential risks and develops safe handling and disposal strategies, contributing to the program’s environmental safety and sustainability commitment.
- Supervises day‑to‑day operations of the facility; manages operations in the absence of the HHW Assistant Manager.
- Ensures efficient and safe operation while effectively managing staff and collaborating closely with partners to maximize waste reduction.
- Facilitates efficient distribution of resources, enhances budgetary practices, and ensures compliance with funding guidelines to support organizational goals.
- Utilizes data analytics to extract insights and develop comprehensive reports for internal management and external stakeholders.
- Manages staff to foster growth, innovation, and collaboration; handles recruitment, training, and performance evaluations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
- Two (2) years of work‑related experience, including at least one (1) year in solid waste management, hazardous waste management, or a related field.
- One (1) year supervisory experience.
- Experience in project management, budgeting, or grants management is preferred.
- Current Class A Driver’s License with Haz Mat endorsement and 40‑hour HAZWOPER Certificate (or within six months of employment).
- Mandatory Haz Mat physical during the first two weeks and annually thereafter.
- Knowledge of standard software and accounting applications.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
- Ability to work varied days and shift schedules, including weekends and holidays.
- Can lift up to 25 lbs. and operate a forklift.
- Ability to travel to various work site locations and perform duties in all weathers.
