Overview

Advanced Practice Provider II, Pediatric Acute Care Cardiology (250000UO). Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant II, Pediatric Acute Care.

The Pediatric Acute Care Cardiology, Inpatient provider, will be working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team within the UT Southwestern Pediatric Cardiology division at Childrens Health in Dallas to provide comprehensive care to pediatric patients on our inpatient cardiology unit. These patients present with a wide variety of congenital and acquired heart disease. This position will require a high degree of critical thinking and clinical expertise in working with pediatric patients in the inpatient acute care cardiology setting.

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant is responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, consultation, and health promotion and care coordination for patients and their families.

• Diagnoses and treats critically ill patients, develops and manages treatment plans, and performs advanced procedures.
• Develops and implements treatment plans for patients.
• Conducts and documents comprehensive initial and ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis, including psychological status.
• Synthesizes data and utilizes evidence to develop, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care, including ordering and interpreting laboratory, radiology, and other diagnostic studies/results.
• Demonstrates proficiency in technical/procedural skills, as appropriate based on specialty and training.
• Provides relevant management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients, families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.
• Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes, workshops, seminars, and staff meetings, to improve clinical and system practice performance.
• Collaborates in research projects and protocols; and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Licenses/Certifications

• Advanced Practice RN (CPNP-AC) by the Texas State Board of Nursing on hire and authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing on hire.
  OR
• National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and license by the Texas Physician Assistant Board (PA-C) on hire.
  AND
• Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certifications by the American Heart Association or Red Cross per UT Southwestern policy on hire.

Education

• Master's degree in nursing or higher and documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
  OR
• Master's degree graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program.

Preferred Experience

• One year of pediatric cardiology inpatient experience with heart failure, pre and post heart transplant, and ventricular assist devices preferred.
• Experience with peripheral intravenous lines (PIV), removal of chest tubes, pacing wires, sutures, and arterial blood gas draws preferred.
• New grads with previous pediatric cardiac or ICU experience may be considered.
