Surgical Assistant, RN Nurse

Specialties include Orthopedics, Spine, General Surgery, Pain Management, Urology, GI / Endoscopy, Plastic, and Podiatry surgeries. We are currently seeking a PRN Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Hospital Outpatient Department team. No call, no weekends and no holidays!
Responsibilities- Performs in depth, systematic assessment of all assigned patients.
- Formulates collaborative and individualized plan of care and identifies expected patient outcomes, using the nursing process.
- Implements, evaluates and documents patient care interventions and effectiveness in accordance with care plan.
- Prepare for and adapt procedures to meet individual needs of pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Ensure all documentation and consents are complete prior to surgery.
- Advocate for each patient's safety.
- Follow standard policies and procedures for surgical / procedural interventions, adapting for surgeon and anesthesia provider preference.
- Ready and prepared for daily on time case starts; on time shift arrival and work attendance.
- Demonstrate compassion and caring for patients, their family members and surgical team members.
- Demonstrate knowledge of anesthetic drugs, actions and side effects; and knowledge of regional anesthetic techniques and moderate sedation.
- Demonstrate knowledge of location, care and operation of surgical equipment / instruments.
- Demonstrate competence in preparing and cleaning OR suites before and between cases and after terminal cases, based on patient infection classification.
- Position, prepare skin and prevent electrosurgical events during patient care in the operating room.
- Provide postsurgical patient hand-off report to RN in next unit of care.
- Recognize and respond to emergencies in the operating room suite.

Required Skills- Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
- Minimum requirement is an Associate Degree in Nursing;
Bachelor's degree is preferred. - Minimum one (1) year previous Operating Room experience required.
- Licensure:
Current unrestricted Texas RN license. - Life Support Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association.
- CNOR preferred.
- Critical thinking skills.
- Excellent communication skills with staff, physicians, patients and families.
- Clinically proficient in OR nursing skills, demonstrating knowledge of the developmental needs of the pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
- Able to lift, push, pull and stand without difficulty.
