Primary Purpose
Provides care to the assigned patient population in accordance with established protocols and a multidisciplinary plan of care, utilizing independent, dependent, and interdependent interventions to restore stability, prevent complications, and achieve and maintain optimal patient responses for all patients through patient‑centered and patient‑valued care.
Minimum SpecificationsEducation: Must be a graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Prefer Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Experience:
- Must have two years of Labor & Delivery experience; OR must have successfully completed Parkland's Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse Residency Program or Parkland's Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse Fellowship Program and have one year of Labor & Delivery experience.
- Must have current RN license or valid temporary permit with the Texas Board of Nursing; or a valid Compact RN license.
- Must have current healthcare provider CPR course completion card from one of the following:
American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Military Training Network. - Must have current Advanced Life Support (ALS) or Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification on hire or placement in the role. Certification must be from one of the following:
American Heart Association, American Red Cross, Military Training Network. - Must have one of the following upon hire or transition into the role. Current incumbents as of January 29, 2024 must obtain by February 15, 2024: AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certificate, AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring certificate, or National Corporation Certification (NCC) Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification.
- Must retake every two years from the completion date of the previous certificate. AWHONN Intermediate Electronic Fetal Monitoring, AWHONN Advanced Electronic Fetal Monitoring, or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring Certification must be renewed every three years.
- Provides care for the assigned patient population in accordance with the State of Texas Nurse Practice Act, established protocols, multidisciplinary plan of care, and clinical area specific standards.
- Applicants must pass the Medication Examination prior to hospital orientation. Current Parkland employees requesting reassignment to this role must have the current Medication Examination on file.
- Provides continuous assessment, consults with other team members as required, and delivers nursing care that demonstrates patient‑centered and patient‑valued care.
- Exercises independent judgment in providing nursing care.
- Demonstrates effective interpersonal skills and possesses good oral and written communication skills.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and hospital staff in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- May be required to communicate effectively via the overhead paging system.
- Provides direction to non‑nursing staff and serves as a preceptor.
- Demonstrates patient‑centered and patient‑valued behaviors.
- As applicable, demonstrates acceptable knowledge of nursing standards of care for specialty care area.
- Serves as a patient advocate, focusing on patient needs, patient rights, confidentiality, and religious and cultural preferences, and maintains positive working relationships with Parkland internal and external stakeholders.
- Utilizes effective verbal and non‑verbal communication to facilitate the development of a therapeutic relationship and environment that promotes wellness, and serves as a resource for patients and other healthcare team members.
- Maintains and implements knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact or govern nursing practice and ensures the hospital and Parkland are in compliance.
- Develops effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws and program requirements of accreditation agencies and federal, state, and private health plans.
