Planned Transmission Arborist – ACRT

About the Role The Planned Transmission Arborist reports to the Senior Consulting Utility Forester and plays a key role in identifying, inspecting, and evaluating trees and brush along utility lines. The position plans, directs, and coordinates tree clearance crews and requires a love of outdoor work and strong communication skills.
What You’ll Do
- Identify and inspect local trees with an understanding of growth rates
- Map circuits using client continuity lists
- Patrol and investigate distribution and/or transmission circuits and prescribed work for client contractors
- Enter tree trimming and brush removal prescriptions into handheld computers and other systems
- Notify property owners of work to be performed according to client specs
- Manage issuance of work and track progress
- Perform outage investigations when necessary
- Discuss and negotiate line-clearance crew access issues
- Perform herbicide audits
- Assist with storm restoration efforts
- Audit tree trimming and removal work to ensure compliance with request forms and approved standards
- Determine timing of next trimming
- Complete post-audit forms and forward to program manager
- Obtain permits and document work from public agencies
- Comply with regulatory requirements and customer standards
- Perform emergency response duties as requested
- Adhere to attendance and work hour requirements
- Operate in a safety‑conscious manner and wear required safety equipment

About You – Must Haves
- High School Diploma or GED (or 5 years of experience in lieu)
- Two years of related utility experience
- 21 years of age or older
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
Nice to Haves
- Associate’s Degree in Forestry or Horticulture
- Experience on the Oncor VM System
- ISA Certification and TDA Pesticide Applicator’s License
Skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite
- Ability to identify local trees and know growth rates
- Work in rugged terrain and inclement weather
- Drive and operate a 4x4 vehicle
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Critical thinking and good judgement
- Knowledge of vegetation management and herbicide use (plus)
- Knowledge of electric utility facilities and hardware (plus)
- Self‑starter, multi‑tasker, and team player
Requirements – Other
- Must obtain ISA Certification within 30 months
- Complete online safe driver and safety training courses
- Drug and alcohol testing required
