Position Description Summary
The duties described below for a Laboratory Technician serve as guidance. Personnel should become proficient in the test procedures of all departments to increase their usefulness to the company. Detailed project procedures will be provided by the project manager and/or supervisor.
- Perform basic laboratory testing
- Perform advanced testing under the supervision of senior staff
- Document work performed by number of tests or time spent, as appropriate
- Communicate test results to client when required
- Provide support on engineering projects as directed
- Assist other personnel at the direction of manager
- Perform duties in a safe, cheerful, efficient, and workmanlike manner
- Responsible for ensuring all laboratory work performed meets or exceeds the minimum requirements set forth in the quality manual and testing standards.
- Responsible for ensuring the laboratory has the appropriate resources in place to execute testing per applicable standards. This includes, but is not limited to, acquiring and maintaining equipment, hiring and training new staff, evaluating and training existing staff, cross‑training, reviewing all lab reports, client coordination, resolving conflicts, coordination with other departments and administrative requirements.
- Responsible for the quality of all lab work performed in the Geotechnical department. This will include, but is not limited to, technical oversight for lab testing, review of all lab technical reports, coordination with other supervising staff, performing quality audits, ensuring quality assurance and quality control plans are being implemented and providing recommendations or corrective actions on non‑compliance issues.
