The Levi Laboratory is located in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern and led by the Principal Investigator, Dr. Benjamin Levi. The lab mission is to improve the lives of people living with skin and musculoskeletal diseases through rigorous science and compassion. The lab consists of 2000 square feet state-of-the-art laboratory space equipped with equipment to facilitate experiments and research with tissue cultures, small animal surgeries, and molecular biology.
All lab members receive leadership training and coaching from Dr. Levi and other senior level lab personnel. Besides working hard, the Levi Lab will step away from the bench to give back to the community.
The Levi Laboratory is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Research Technician II to join our collaborative team for a minimum two-year commitment. Our research focuses on musculoskeletal injury, repair, and regeneration. The successful candidate will contribute to a variety of ongoing projects and gain hands-on experience in both in vivo and in vitro models. Responsibilities will include animal handling, genotyping, surgical assistance in animal models, histological processing, immunohistochemistry, and confocal microscopy.
Prior experience in a molecular biology laboratory is strongly preferred.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND LABORATORY EXPECTATIONS- Perform animal breeding, genotyping, handling, and surgical procedures.
- Conduct molecular biology techniques including PCR, qPCR, Western blotting, RNA/DNA extraction, cloning, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, and next-generation sequencing.
- Assist with advanced analytical methods such as flow cytometry and potentially mass spectrometry.
- Execute the full histology pipeline: tissue harvesting, embedding, sectioning, staining, and imaging via confocal microscopy.
- Maintain accurate, detailed records and ensure a clean, organized, and safe laboratory workspace.
- Analyze and interpret data using appropriate software and statistical tools.
- Collaborate closely with the PI and project leads; demonstrate strong communication and organizational skills.
- Foster a respectful, inclusive, and team-oriented laboratory culture.
- Engage in scientific communication, including weekly lab meetings, writing/reading groups, and contributing to manuscripts and presentations for conferences.

Required Education
- Bachelor s Degree With major coursework in field of assignment and no experience or
- Two (2) years of college with emphasis in coursework in field of assignment or
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience
- No experience required with Bachelor s Degree or
- 2 years of laboratory experience at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with two (2) years of college or
- 4 years of laboratory experience including two years at level of Laboratory Technical Assistant or equivalent with High School Graduation/GED
- Performs routine scientific and medical research work in science area such as biology, chemistry, physics, or other related scientific field.
- Assembles and/or operates various laboratory equipment and apparatus.
- Records research data in accordance with prescribed procedures, discussing results with supervisor.
- Assists in collection of data for project reports.
- Reads literature and confers with supervisor concerning implementation of new procedures.
- May plan for, and provide working supervision to, work of laboratory personnel of lower grade engaged in limited phase of research project.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
