Overview
Fiber & Building Technology Training Supervisor role at Aptitude:
Intelligent Integration (a JE Dunn strategic partner). This is a full-time traveling position. The initial assignment will be on a project in Bowling Green, Ohio. Applicants should be prepared to travel up to 100% based on project needs. This role supports the strategy, vision, and values of JE Dunn and is focused on training and supervising fiber and building technology installations.
- Teach and model the company’s safety culture; coach others to create an injury-free environment through safe installation practices. Review incidents and lead retraining to reinforce safe behavior.
- Provide instruction on effective client and project communication related to fiber optic and building technology systems.
- Guide learners in coordinating design and construction to meet constructability, quality, financial, and technical standards.
- Train project staff, subcontractors, and suppliers on safety, quality, and EEO requirements within fiber and building technology scopes.
- Teach work planning for low voltage and fiber optic installations, both subcontracted and self-performed.
- Instruct on proper care, custody, and control of assigned scopes.
- Coach on project scheduling fundamentals for technology installations and how to adjust schedules with project managers.
- Educate on tracking budgets, costs, and productivity using project management tools and cost reports.
- Teach how to communicate key project information to owners, design teams, subcontractors, and suppliers.
- Instruct on updating and maintaining project documentation (drawings, logs, inspection records).
- Train on recording and analyzing unit costs, daily reports, and maintaining accurate tracking data.
- Guide learners in evaluating self-perform work progress and making necessary adjustments.
- Provide instruction on managing material and equipment needs for fiber and building technology installations.
- Teach selection and use of formwork, tools, and equipment for technology system installation.
- Instruct supervisors on accurate timekeeping, timecard approval, and cost coding.
- Coach teams on coordinating with all trades to ensure conduit, pathways, and back-box infrastructure are installed before fiber cabling and device installation.
- Guide learners in applying quality standards, reading specifications, and implementing QA/QC processes.
- Provide instruction on project closeout practices, including pre-punch activities and coordination with owners and authorities.
- Support learners in understanding their role during project pursuit, planning, and execution; train on creating and adjusting preplans throughout the project lifecycle.
- Teach strategies for building and developing a skilled local workforce for fiber and building technology scopes.
- Provide guidance on identifying schedule impacts and cost implications of project changes.
- Coach participants on preparing for and presenting in project review meetings, including monthly reviews.
- Educate learners on owner and subcontractor contract terms relevant to fiber and building technology scopes.
- Promote and teach principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion; model nondiscrimination practices.
- High School Diploma or GED (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or related field (Preferred)
- In lieu of the above, relevant experience will be considered
- 5+ years construction experience with emphasis on teaching or mentoring in the field (Required)
- 5+ years experience with Division 8/23/25/27/28 systems, including fiber (OSP & ISP) and building technology, with ability to train others (Required)
- 3+ years experience leading, coaching, or supervising field staff, apprentices, or subcontractors (Required)
- 5+ years experience guiding project teams or delivering training on project management principles (Preferred)
- Strong accuracy and timeliness in work output
- Thorough understanding of low voltage technology systems (structured cabling, access control, video surveillance, fire alarm, AV, building automation, nurse call, RTLS, phones, network electronics) and cross-market applicability
- Ability to configure and program project-to-project software for testing and troubleshooting
- Effective verbal and written communication; ability to conduct presentations
- MS Office proficiency; basic blueprint reading;
Lean process understanding - Knowledge of cost tracking, budgets, and maintaining project documentation
- Ability to manage budgets, maximize profitability, and build relationships for future work
- Familiarity with Div 8/23/25/27/28 low voltage systems; self-perform and labor productivity concepts
- Ability to collaborate within teams and across trades; understand schedule changes and impacts
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
- Travel and relocation may be required; may be exposed to extreme conditions
