Job OverviewUnder the supervision of the Automotive Maintenance Supervisor or General/ARFF Equipment Supervisor, the Automotive Technician will train or perform maintenance and repair on a variety of automotive equipment. This role may involve troubleshooting, making repairs, and performing adjustments using test equipment and technical manuals.
What You Will Be Doing- Use test equipment to troubleshoot problems, determine corrective action, and make repairs or adjustments.
- Perform tune‑ups, replace parts, and make adjustments using test equipment and technical manuals.
- Repair electrical, fuel, electronic ignition, emission, and exhaust systems.
- Inspect and repair hydraulic systems on equipment; replace components as required.
- Inspect and replace or repair brake systems on vehicles and equipment.
- Make repairs or complete overhauls on gasoline and diesel engines and alternative fuels.
- Repair or replace front‑end parts on vehicles and equipment; align front end.
- Repair, replace, and service transmissions, drive shafts, U‑joints, and differential axles.
- Repair carburetors, generator‑alternators, ball joints, shocks, wheel bearings/seals, starters, fuel pumps, and other equipment.
- Service and make repairs to vehicle air conditioning systems.
- Completion of high school curriculum or equivalent.
- Three (3) years experience as an automotive mechanic.
- Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be substituted for the above.
- For Aircraft/Fire/Rescue, Heavy Equipment, or Winter Weather Equipment: must have a Valid Class B Commercial driver's license with a passenger (P) endorsement; driver's licenses with an "L" restriction are not acceptable; must be obtained within 6 months of employment in this classification.
- Ability to pass a medical physical examination.
- Possession of a valid Class C driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain an EPA 608 Refrigerant certification within 90 days of employment in this position.
- Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
- Must be able to meet all initial and recurrent training requirements in accordance with Title 14 CFR part 139 and administrative Policy AO.014.01, Ground Vehicle Driver Training for Air Operations Area (AOA) within 30 days of assignment to a driving position and before being permitted to operate the vehicle without the direct supervision and presence of a co‑operator qualified under this requirement.
