Field Service Technician II

Overview

At NASS, we provide the broadest set of one-stop substation service capabilities in the country—including transformers and breakers, switches, arresters, and apparatus testing, to comprehensive substation inspection programs, protection and control commissioning and repairs, and control cabinet engineering.

Job Purpose

This position performs routine skilled and technical support work in the inspection, repair, and maintenance of transmission and distribution substation electrical equipment. It requires working outdoors in all weather conditions. Occasionally work is performed near moving mechanical parts, at heights, hazardous places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, temperature extremes, fumes, traffic, potential electrical shock hazards, noise pollution, and vibration.

Responsibilities
  • Assemble and repair high‑voltage power transformers.
  • Operate oil processing equipment for transformer vacuum filling and oil processing.
  • Maintain oil processing equipment in mechanical working order.
  • Transport oil processing equipment, generators, and trailers to customer locations.
  • Assist in coordinating substation services with technicians, electricians, and the project manager.
  • Travel to different customer sites/locations.
  • Oversee equipment performance and ensure proper function.
  • Provide reporting on equipment gauge monitoring and daily progress/activities.
Qualifications

Required

  • Must have 2 or more years of industry experience.
  • High School diploma or GED. Supplemental courses in electrical maintenance are desired.
  • Current and valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Must be able to crawl, climb, stand, and lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Must be able to pass a fit‑for‑duty exam.
  • Available for regular overnight domestic travel and occasional international travel.
  • Willing to work flexible hours, overtime, occasional weekends, holidays, and nights.
  • Able and willing to travel up to 80% as needed.

Preferred

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • NCCO Crane Certification.
  • Some knowledge of fundamental principles of mechanical engineering.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions required in power distribution facilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical diagrams and prints.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of power generation and distribution metering and recording devices.
  • Ability to learn the practices and procedures of the industry.
  • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
Compensation

The hourly rate for this position is between $27.00 – $35.00 per hour. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range may include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
