Beacon Youth Transition Systems VISTA
Beacon Center Inc. 2.0 provides supportive housing and long-term assistance to young people experiencing homelessness, youth aging out of foster care, and young parents. Beacon helps young people pursue stability through housing, education, employment, financial development, healthcare access, transportation, and lasting community connections. Beacon’s Ameri Corps VISTA project will strengthen the organizational infrastructure behind these services. The VISTA will assess Beacon’s existing youth-transition and case-management framework and develop standardized tools, curricula, procedures, referral systems, training resources, and evaluation methods that staff and interns can continue using after the service term.
The VISTA will create an independent-living curriculum addressing housing, employment, education, budgeting, banking, savings, credit, transportation, healthcare, benefits, and other adult responsibilities. The member will also develop facilitator guides, participant materials, staff and intern training resources, transition-planning tools, referral directories, data-tracking systems, and sustainability procedures. Limited testing may be conducted to evaluate and improve newly developed tools. The VISTA will not maintain a caseload, provide ongoing instruction to youth, make clinical or placement decisions, or replace Beacon staff and interns responsible for direct services.
Duties
Assess Beacon’s current youth-transition and case-management framework and identify service gaps, inconsistent practices, and opportunities for improvement. Develop standardized transition-planning tools, an independent-living curriculum, facilitator guides, participant materials, referral resources, and staff and intern training materials. Create procedures for documenting referrals, tracking youth progress, evaluating outcomes, and escalating unresolved needs to authorized staff. Design data-collection tools and measures for housing, education, employment, financial stability, healthcare access, and successful transitions.
Conduct limited testing of newly developed resources, gather feedback, revise materials, train designated staff and interns to maintain the systems, and prepare a sustainability guide. The VISTA will not maintain a caseload or serve as an ongoing instructor or case manager.
