Work Shield is seeking a full‑time Senior Back End Engineer to join our development team in Dallas, Texas. This in‑office position will lead the design, development, and optimization of our user‑facing web application.

• Architect, develop, and maintain high‑performance, scalable backend services and APIs.
• Optimize and refactor existing codebases for efficiency, scalability, and maintainability.
• Ensure system reliability and security by implementing best practices in authentication, authorization, and data protection.
• Design and manage databases, ensuring high availability, performance tuning, and data integrity.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders to deliver end‑to‑end solutions.
• Lead technical decision‑making by evaluating new technologies, frameworks, and architectures.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, providing guidance and fostering a culture of learning and technical excellence.
• Contribute to technical documentation and coding standards to improve knowledge sharing and maintainability.

Candidates should have 5+ years of experience with the following skills:

• Backend Development using Rust, Node.js, and Python (FastAPI).
• AI & LLM Integration with ChatGPT, Llama Index, RAG, and prompt engineering.
• Database expertise in MySQL and Mongo
  
  DB.
• API Development with RESTful and Graph
  
  QL standards.
• Authentication & Authorization with JWT.
• Caching & Performance Optimization using Redis.
• Real‑time Communication via Web Sockets.
• Security best practices for APIs.
• Git & Version Control.

• Understanding of distributed systems, microservice architectures, or Apollo Federation.
• Experience with vector databases such as Chroma or Pinecone.
• Experience with automated testing strategies in Rust, Node, or Python.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science,, or a related field is preferred.

The salary range for this role is up to $97,500, based on relevant experience and qualifications. This role is also eligible for a discretionary bonus based on individual and organizational performance and goal attainment.
