Position Overview

Élan Partners is seeking a Senior Staff Software Engineer with strong modern .NET/C# backend engineering experience for a large, consumer-facing company in Dallas. This is a highly technical, hands‑on role focused on designing and scaling distributed systems that support high-volume, real-time customer transactions.

The ideal candidate has moved beyond simply developing within an existing architecture and has experience designing and owning systems, solving complex scalability and reliability challenges, and taking responsibility for applications in production
. This person should be comfortable making architecture decisions, establishing engineering standards, mentoring other engineers, and influencing technical direction across teams while remaining hands‑on.

Experience with
high-scale B2C or customer-facing transactional platforms is strongly preferred. Relevant environments could include e-commerce, ordering/delivery, payments/fintech, banking, marketplaces, travel/reservations, ticketing, retail, or other platforms where large numbers of consumers are simultaneously completing transactions.

The current environment is .NET/C#, AWS, microservices, and event‑driven architecture
, but exact technology matches are not required. Strong distributed systems experience at meaningful scale is more important than having worked with every technology in the current stack.

Required Qualifications
  • Advanced hands‑on backend development experience with modern C#/.NET
  • Strong distributed systems and microservices architecture experience
  • Experience designing and owning systems
, not solely developing within an established architecture
  • Experience building, scaling, or significantly contributing to high-volume transactional production systems
  • Strong understanding of scalability, availability, performance, latency, fault tolerance, and data integrity
  • Real-world production ownership
, including observability, monitoring, performance optimization, incident response/RCA, reliability, and resilience
  • Experience identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, scaling challenges, and architectural risks
  • Staff-level technical leadership experience, including architecture decisions, engineering standards, mentoring, and technical influence across teams
  • Ability to remain hands‑on technically while providing broader architectural and engineering leadership
  • Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with B2C/customer‑facing, high‑transaction platforms
    , including e-commerce, payments/fintech, banking, marketplaces, ordering/delivery, travel/reservations, ticketing, or similar environments
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP
; AWS is preferred but not required
  • Experience with event streaming or messaging technologies such as Kafka, Kinesis, SQS/SNS, RabbitMQ, Azure Service Bus, or Pub/Sub
  • Experience with PostgreSQL/Aurora, SQL Server, MySQL
    , or similar relational databases
  • Experience with Redis or other caching technologies
  • Experience with Kubernetes/EKS or similar container orchestration technologies
  • Experience with PCI-DSS, payments, secure transaction processing, or fraud-related systems
  • Experience with restaurant, QSR, retail, or commerce platforms
  • Practical experience using AI-assisted engineering tools while maintaining strong engineering fundamentals and technical judgment
Responsibilities
  • Design and develop distributed backend systems using .NET/C#
  • Help define and evolve the architecture of high-volume, customer‑facing transactional platforms
  • Design and scale microservices and event-driven systems supporting complex production workloads
  • Lead technical decisions related to system architecture, scalability, performance, reliability, and resilience
  • Take ownership of production health, including observability, monitoring, performance, incidents, RCA, and long-term system reliability
  • Identify and resolve system bottlenecks, architectural risks, and scaling challenges
  • Establish backend engineering standards, architecture patterns, and development best practices
  • Evaluate technical tradeoffs and select appropriate technologies based on system requirements rather than specific vendor tools
  • Partner with engineering, product, and business teams to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions
  • Mentor engineers and help elevate technical capabilities across development teams
