The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office is seeking passionate individuals who are ready to make a difference in our community! The San Mateo County Sheriff's Activities League (SAL) is a non-profit organization that builds positive partnerships between youth, deputies and the communities through safe and affordable, purposeful programs that make a difference. The Sheriff's Activities League constantly strives to build strong, positive relationships between law enforcement and the communities we serve by providing resources to help youth in our community reach their full potential.

The Ideal Candidate will possess the following characteristics:
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent skills with using Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience administering sports-related programs, leagues, and/or events
- Knowledge of the game play rules of soccer, basketball, flag football, and volleyball.
- Ability to network, market, recruit, and coordinate with outside agencies and volunteers.
- An eagerness to learn and be adaptable to the needs of SAL programming and events.
- A passion for public service and interest in serving the community.
- An eagerness cross-train in all programs and outreach performed by SAL.
- A willingness to step in during all-hands-on-deck situations due to unanticipated staffing shortage or special events.
- Ability to understand the program budget of your assigned project(s).
- Take ownership of your assigned project(s) hitting targeted goals and not exceeding budget caps.
- Ability to maintain contemporaneous tracking of activities data for your assigned project(s) for grant reporting.
- Possession of a class C driver's license, a clean driver's record, and a willingness to drive a county van.
- Fluency in Spanish is highly desired.
The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office has one (1) part-time extra-help vacancy. Extra-help personnel work no more than 1040 hours per July 1st – June 30th fiscal year. The number of weekly hours may fluctuate depending upon the needs of special events and programming. SAL serves San Mateo County, as well as all unincorporated areas of San Mateo County, from Pacifica to Pescadero.
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Develop rapport, establish, and maintain contact with members of the community served and interpret community needs and cultural patterns to professional staff members.
- Provide educational services to the clientele served; schedule, arrange, and assist in the facilitation of educational programs and activities to support client health/wellness, recovery, self-sufficiency, or employment goals.
- Perform outreach to provide education and information to individuals who may be at risk and unaware of services and/or prevention methods; inform clients and community members of programs and services.
- Identify needs of clients served; provide information and refer clients to appropriate social services which may include areas of employment, health services, childcare, and transportation; research community resources for clients; work closely with other County staff to coordinate various functions of outreach and referrals.
