Saudi Arabian Railways (SAR) is seeking a Structural Engineer specialising in rail infrastructure to provide technical leadership, engineering judgement, and assurance across complex railway projects. This is a professional role, suited to an engineer with deep expertise in railway structures (bridges, stations, tunnels, depots) who can operate confidently in a multidisciplinary rail environment, engaging with designers, contractors, clients, and regulators.
You will work Client-side and contribute to projects from concept through delivery, ensuring structural solutions are safe, robust, compliant, and aligned with whole‑life railway performance.
Key Responsibilities- Technical Leadership & Engineering Judgement:
Lead and review the structural engineering aspects of railway infrastructure, including bridges, viaducts, tunnels, stations, yards, and ancillary railway buildings - Provide authoritative engineering judgement on structural design acceptability, constructability, durability, and long‑term performance
- Challenge non‑compliant or high‑risk design solutions and propose technically sound alternatives
- Develop, review, and endorse structural design deliverables at key project stages (concept, preliminary, detailed design)
- Perform and check complex structural analyses and calculations, using appropriate analytical and finite‑element tools
- Ensure alignment with railway‑specific standards and best practice, not just generic civil codes
- Work closely with track, systems, electrical, geotechnical, hydrology, and architectural disciplines to ensure integrated, buildable solutions
- Identify and resolve interface risks between structural works and wider railway systems
- Provide engineering input to non‑conformance resolution, technical queries, and change assessments
- Ensure compliance with applicable Saudi Arabian standards, international rail standards (e.g. AREMA, EN/Eurocodes where applicable), and project‑specific requirements
- Support engineering risk identification, mitigation, and resolution
- Contribute to technical interfaces with authorities, clients, and independent reviewers
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior and mid‑level engineers
- Promote good engineering practice, professionalism, and safety‑led decision‑making
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering
- Professional Engineer (PE), Chartered Engineer (CEng), Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) or equivalent recognised professional registration
- 15+ years of experience in structural engineering, with significant rail infrastructure experience
- Strong background in the design of railway bridges, stations, tunnels, or depots
- Proven capability in structural analysis
