Job Title:
Mechanical Project Engineer – Intermediate Level Sector:
Data Centre / Mission Critical Projects (preferred)
Key Responsibilities:
Design Review & Coordination
- Thoroughly study the IFC MEP design package to fully understand the mechanical scope of work.
- Ensure all design drawings and specifications comply with local building regulations, industry standards, and client requirements.
- Provide technical input to the BIM team during the preparation of coordinated shop drawings for all mechanical systems.
- Conduct detailed technical reviews of shop drawings prior to formal submission to the consultant.
- Raise and follow up on Requests for Information (RFIs) for design clarifications when required.
- Liaise with the MEP Manager and consultant to verify designs and coordinate design changes based on site conditions and MEP interfaces.
- Prepare and review material and technical submittals in accordance with project specifications and coordinate approvals.
- Review consultant comments on submittals/shop drawings and manage timely re-submissions.
- Request BIM‑extracted Material Take‑Offs (MTOs) using Revit, perform manual cross‑checks, and validate accuracy.
- Prepare Material Requisition s (MRs) and Requests for Quotation (RFQs) for procurement submission.
- Coordinate with the QA/QC team and storekeeper to ensure only approved materials are delivered to site.
- Monitor on‑site mechanical installation works against approved shop drawings and the construction program.
- Provide technical direction and support to Construction Managers, Superintendents, and supervisors to ensure installations meet design intent and project specifications.
- Issue latest approved shop drawings to site teams and retrieve superseded versions.
- Escalate any engineering or installation issues that may impact schedule or quality to the MEP Manager.
- Coordinate builders’ work requirements with the BIM and Construction teams.
- Support the Planning & Controls team with engineering progress updates and subcontractor work programs.
- Coordinate with QA/QC for Material Inspection Requests (MIRs) and Work Inspection Requests (WIRs).
- Ensure full compliance with company and project HSE plans, approved RAMS, and safe working practices.
- Promote adherence to quality standards among subordinates and recommend training on new technologies/materials where required.
- Assist the QA/QC team with damage reports for installed MEP services.
- Interface with the Commissioning team, providing engineering input and coordinating vendor activities.
- Support client/vendor training and project handover activities (O&Ms, keys/equipment handover, etc.).
- Assist the BIM team during project close‑out with red‑line mark‑ups and 3D scanning for accurate As‑Built drawings.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or equivalent from a recognized university.
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience in construction projects (Data Centre or mission‑critical project experience highly advantageous).
- Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, etc.).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Navisworks, and Revit (for coordination and MTO review).
- Excellent communication, coordination, and problem‑solving skills.
- Familiarity with Middle East codes and standards is an advantage.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment.
