Licensed Optician role a Licensed Dispensing Optician (LDO), you will analyze prescriptions to provide the highest quality vision care to our patients. The LDO fits, measures, and adjusts eyeglasses to meet patients’ needs and expectations and resolves any vision‑care issues. The LDO provides oversight on all prescriptions throughout the office.
Responsibilities- Provide patients with exceptional customer service by understanding and assisting their needs
- Guide and assist patients in eyewear and frame/lens selection using knowledge of product lines and options
- Converse with patients to analyze and assess vision problems and needs
- Provide oversight on all prescriptions throughout the office
- Maximize sales using the company’s standard sales concepts and promotions for products (e.g., anti-reflective coating, poly, warranties, second pairs, backup eyewear)
- Maximize insurance plans for patients and explain benefits
- Understand cost of goods and retail fee schedules; use this knowledge to address “walking Rx” concerns
- Focus on company Key Patient Indicators
- Educate patients on adaptation to new prescriptions and care of lenses
- Use pupillometer, PD ruler, and other technical aids for proper fit and measurements
- Ensure accurate delivery and turnaround times; notify patients of delays
- Understand promotions, coupons, and third‑party programs available
- Make care calls to patients who recently received eyewear
- Use lensometer to neutralize, verify, and perform final inspection of eyewear
- Notify patients when eyeglasses are complete for dispensing; fit and adjust eyewear
- Ensure product pricing is accurate; monitor jobs waiting for pickup
- Maintain clean and merchandise displays; place returns in proper bins
- Perform preliminary testing for patients as needed; process payments; help maintain office appearance
- Attend meetings and participate in training opportunities; perform other duties as assigned
- State Board Certified Licensed Dispensing Optician
- AA or BA/BS in related field is desirable
- 2-5 years of related eyewear experience in a similar office
- Proven success in a retail/office environment addressing diverse customer requirements
- Strong comfort with optical and lens-related concerns
- Ability to oversee, understand, and describe multiple prescriptions daily
- Proven ability to establish positive patient rapport and build relationships
- Strong communication skills (oral and written); ability to manage priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and meet patient commitments/deadlines
- Proficiency with automated equipment and systems standard to the optometry industry
