Position OverviewSenior Camp Counselors are responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and supervision to a group of counselors and campers, fostering a positive and inclusive camp environment. This role involves planning and implementing daily activities, leading group discussions, resolving conflicts, and serving as a role model for both campers and junior counselors.
Skills and Competencies- Lead and supervise a group of campers and counselors throughout daily activities, ensuring their safety, well‑being, and engagement in camp programs.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for campers, demonstrating enthusiasm, integrity, and respect for others.
- Plan, organize, and facilitate age‑appropriate activities, games, and workshops that promote personal growth, teamwork, and creativity.
- Assist in the development and implementation of daily schedules and routines, ensuring a balance of structured and free‑choice activities.
- Collaborate with fellow counselors and camp leadership to create a supportive and inclusive camp community that values diversity and fosters positive relationships.
- Mentor and support junior counselors, providing guidance, feedback, and assistance in their roles and responsibilities.
- Communicate regularly with campers, families, and fellow staff members, providing updates, feedback, and support as needed.
- Manage and address behavioral issues and conflicts among campers, implementing appropriate disciplinary measures and conflict resolution strategies.
- Ensure the cleanliness, organization, and safety of camp facilities and equipment, reporting any maintenance or safety concerns to camp leadership.
- Participate actively in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
Education and Experience
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid required.
- Must be at least 18 years old and have completed high school by June 1, 2026.
- Complete the Summer n's Senior Counselor training program.
- Previous experience as a camp counselor or equivalent leadership role, preferably in a residential or day camp setting.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate campers and fellow staff members.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving abilities, with a positive and flexible attitude.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with diverse individuals.
- Ability to prioritize tasks, manage time efficiently, and adapt to changing circumstances.
- Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
- Bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
- Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
