Position OverviewJunior Summer Camp Counselors play a vital role in supporting the day-to-day operations of the camp, providing assistance and guidance to campers while learning from experienced counselors and camp leadership. This position offers hands‑on experience in a fun and dynamic camp environment and serves as a stepping stone for individuals interested in pursuing careers in education, youth development, or outdoor recreation.
Skillsand Competencies
- Assist Senior Counselors in supervising and engaging campers in a variety of activities, ensuring their safety, well‑being, and enjoyment.
- Participate actively in all camp activities, including sports, arts and crafts, nature exploration, and team‑building exercises, to support the overall camp experience.
- Serve as a positive role model and mentor for campers, promoting a culture of respect, kindness, and inclusivity.
- Assist in the organization and setup of activity areas, equipment, and materials, ensuring they are safe, clean, and ready for use.
- Support Senior Counselors in the implementation of daily schedules, routines, and program plans, helping to ensure a smooth and enjoyable camp experience for all participants.
- Assist with the supervision and coordination of lunch and snack breaks and transitions between activities, following camp procedures and protocols.
- Communicate regularly with Senior Counselors and fellow staff members, providing updates, feedback, and support as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Uphold camp policies and standards, including health and safety protocols, and ensure compliance with all camp rules and regulations.
Education and Experience
- Must be at least 16 years old by June 1, 2026.
- Enthusiasm, energy, and a genuine interest in working with children in a camp setting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn, take initiative, and adapt to changing circumstances in a fast‑paced environment.
- Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
- Bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
- Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, colour vision, and depth perception.
