Tripping Counselor

Location: Summer n's – Exploration Camps
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 am – 4:15 pm
Training Dates: June 2 – June 15, 2026
Season Dates: June 16 – August 19, 2026
Salary Range: $1,000 weekly stipend
Position Overview: The Tripping Counselor will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing various day trips around Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine. This role requires someone with excellent organizational skills, a passion for outdoor activities, and a commitment to safety. The counselor will ensure each trip provides a safe, enjoyable, and enriching experience for all participants. All trips have a minimum of two tripping counselors on all trips leaving campus.
Skillsand Competencies
- Lead day trips to local attractions, natural sites, and educational facilities, ensuring a diverse range of activities that cater to the interests and abilities of all campers.
- Work with camp leadership to coordinate logistics for all day trips, including transportation, meals, tickets, and equipment, ensuring all necessary arrangements are made in advance.
- Conduct pre‑trip briefings for campers and staff, outlining activities, safety protocols, and behavioral expectations.
- Maintain a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere, encouraging camper participation and fostering a spirit of adventure and curiosity.
- Monitor and manage camper behavior, ensuring a safe and respectful environment at all times.
- Respond to emergencies and unexpected situations effectively, applying first aid and crisis management skills as needed.
- Evaluate the success of each trip, gathering feedback from campers and staff to continually improve the day‑tripping program.
- Maintain accurate records of trip details, participant attendance, and incident reports.
- Work closely with other camp staff to integrate day trips with other camp programs and activities.
- Uphold all camp policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with health and safety standards.
Education and Experience
- Proven experience as a counselor, guide, or coordinator, preferably in a camp or educational setting.
- Strong knowledge of the local area's geography and attractions, with an ability to plan diverse and appealing day trips.
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills, with the capacity to coordinate and manage group activities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, capable of working effectively with children and adults.
- Current First Aid and CPR certifications.
- Ability to handle emergencies and unforeseen situations calmly and efficiently.
- A clean driving record and the ability to drive large vehicles if required.
- Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
- Bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to reach and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
- Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
- Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
- Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
