Position Overview

The Arts and Crafts Program Provider is responsible for delivering fun, skill‑building, and developmentally appropriate visual arts sessions in a camp setting. Working with campers from Pre‑K through entering grade 9, the Provider will lead engaging 40‑minute lessons focused on creativity, hands‑on exploration, and self‑expression. This role requires energy, organization, and the ability to spark artistic joy in campers of all experience levels.

  • Creative Lesson Planning:
    Develop age‑appropriate art projects for campers grouped by Grades Pre‑K, K‑1, 2–3, 4–5, and 6–9 that align with weekly camp themes and seasonal interests. Projects should be achievable within a 40‑minute session and encourage creativity and skill‑building.
  • Multi‑Group Instruction:
    Adapt instructions and expectations based on age and ability level, ensuring all campers are engaged and supported during the creative process.
  • Supply Preparation and Management:
    Organize daily supplies in advance, manage use of shared art materials, and maintain a clean, safe, and well‑stocked craft area.
  • Engagement and Encouragement:
    Foster a relaxed, inclusive environment where campers feel free to express themselves artistically. Offer positive reinforcement and constructive feedback to build camper confidence.
  • Classroom Management:
    Establish clear routines and behavior expectations. Manage transitions efficiently between groups and ensure smooth operation across multiple sessions per day.
  • Collaboration with Camp Staff:
    Work with counselors and leadership staff to integrate arts into camp‑wide events, spirit days, and showcases.
  • Supportive Camp Presence:
    Assist with setup and cleanup of the arts space and support campers in taking ownership of their creative work. Serve as a warm, welcoming role model for all campers.
Requirements
  • Prior experience teaching or facilitating visual arts or crafts with children in a camp, school, or community setting.
  • Strong ability to manage groups of youth and guide them through step‑by‑step art projects within time limits.
  • Creative thinking, patience, and flexibility – especially when working with varied materials, age groups, and abilities.
  • Familiarity with basic art materials (paint, glue, scissors, paper, yarn, etc.) and age‑appropriate project ideas.
  • Background in Art Education, Studio Art, Elementary Education, or related field preferred.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certifications required (can be provided if needed).
Physical Requirements
  • Standing/sitting for long periods of time.
  • Bending, lifting, pushing, kneeling, crouching, crawling, stooping.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach at and above shoulder height to access higher areas of equipment, etc.
  • Must be capable of adapting to frequent changes in position throughout the workday.
  • Hearing and speaking to exchange information in person or on the telephone.
  • Use of hands and fingers for manipulation, and using computer keyboard, educational tools, play equipment, and perform first aid and CPR.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
