Part-Time Library Archives Digitization Assistant (Student Position)
Work Schedule:
These are five hours per week positions for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 semesters. Hours are negotiable, but must generally fall between Monday through Thursday 8 am - 4 pm. All work must be completed on the Danvers Campus.
SALARY: $17.30 per hour; non-benefited, grant-funded

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
North Shore Community College Library is hiring two student employees to assist in digitizing the Library's archival collection using a tool called JSTOR Seeklight. For the duration of this project, students will be responsible for scanning copies of archival materials, uploading them to JSTOR, reviewing and revising AI-generated metadata, and filing original documents in archival boxes. Students will work directly with the Danvers Library Coordinator and the Systems & Technology Librarian.
This is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about NSCC's history, get experience with archival practice and digital preservation, and gain hands-on familiarity working with AI.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Digitize NSCC Archival materials which may include newspaper clippings, copies of The Pennon (the long running NSCC newspaper), student yearbooks, and course catalogs
- Utilize file naming convention for both standalone and compound items
- Write contextual notes for each collection
- Upload files, along with their contextual notes, to JSTOR Seeklight for AI metadata creation
- Review AI generated metadata using both confidence score ratings and a rubric to evaluate, and update metadata as needed
- File scanned archival materials in archival boxes
- Write ongoing reflection about the experience of interacting with the archives and digitizing archival materials, as well as working with AI
- Knowledge of Google Suite, ability to learn new technology skills
- Must have excellent critical thinking skills
- Strong attention to detail, and ability to maintain accurate records
- Good at following directions, and providing feedback
- Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
