About NEHD

New England Homes for the Deaf, founded in 1901, is a life plan community that offers a continuum of care to Deaf, Deafblind, and hard of hearing seniors, including independent living, rest home, skilled nursing, Deaf senior centers, short-term rehabilitation services, respite care services and hospice care. The mission is to provide long term healthcare, housing, recreational activities and social support for Deaf, Deafblind and hard of hearing individuals in an accessible, barrier-free, and culturally sensitive environment with optimal communication and architectural resources.

Job Summary

As an RN/LPN you will provide excellent care to our Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf/Blind residents in our long-term care, nursing facility.

Responsibilities
  • Per Diem available to work the 7:00 AM - 3:00 PM, 3:00 PM - 11:00 PM, or 11:00 PM - 7:00 AM shift.
  • Comply with all procedures and policies as developed by the Director of Nursing Services.
  • Assess and administer medications and treatments to assigned residents.
  • Comply with all safe medication practices.
  • Ensure the highest possible quality of care always.
  • Maintain a respectful, courteous, professional, and supportive attitude of supervisors as well as those being supervised.
  • Be a problem solver and resident advocate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Rotational weekend and holiday requirements.
Qualifications
  • Must be a licensed RN/LPN, in good standing, in the state of Massachusetts.
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language and Deaf culture is a plus. Staff must participate in free, weekly ASL classes on-site.
  • CPR certification.
  • Must always adhere to nursing code of ethics.
Requirements
  • Must have graduated from an accredited RN or LPN Program with an active RN or LPN license.
  • Good physical and mental health.
  • Good understanding of body mechanics in transferring residents. Will be required to pass training on transference techniques.
  • Ability to stay calm in excitable or emergency situations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Pleasant/professional personality and behavior.
  • Related prior experience helpful. However, "on the job" training will be provided to suit our special requirements.
  • Will be expected to attend all mandatory In-Service training and RN/LPN meetings.
  • Willing to work weekends.
  • All staff are required to take our free, on-site ASL and Culture classes.
Benefits
  • Sick days - In compliance with Massachusetts Mandatory Sick Time Law (2015). You will receive one hour of earned Sick time for every 30 hours worked; up to 40 hours per year. This may be less in the year of hire.
  • Differential Pay (weekday) - 3:00pm-11:00pm/11:00pm-7:00am shifts will get an additional $1.50 per hour
  • Differential Pay (Saturday/Sunday) - 3:00pm-11:00pm/11:00pm-7:00am shifts will get an additional $2.00 per hour
