• Teach, design and rehearse a winter guard program that complements and enhances the visual and musical program that has been designed.
• Work with the Marching Band Director, Assistant Winter Guard Director/Sponsor, and other staff to develop a visual program, including flag, uniform, and prop design.
• Attend and supervise all rehearsals and performances, and instruct members in fundamental and advanced dance, flag, and weapon techniques.
• Teach winter guard members program material.
• Choreograph, arrange, and implement color guard routines, either as an integrated part of the winter guard or with a hired choreographer.
• Ensure the highest possible level of performance from the color guard through proper warm-up, preparation, and attention to individual members.
• Recruit potential color guard members while retaining current members.
• Ensure that the color guard is properly equipped for rehearsals and performances.
• Maintain cooperative working relationships with the Athletic Director, Band Director, School Administration, Booster Organization, and Custodial Staff.
• Manage all equipment for rehearsals and performances, including maintenance, repair, and acquisition recommendations.
• Schedule separate competition events as a winter guard during the winter season.
• Establish communication with parents of color guard students and organize their support for the winter guard.
• Other related duties, as assigned, to assist the Band Director in preparing students for competitions and public appearances, including parades and reviews.
