Join the Geisinger team as a Patient Care Technician in our Advanced Acute Care Hematology Unit. No CNA certification is required.

Job Summary

Geisinger offers a $1,500 sign‑on bonus for eligible candidates, a starting rate of $18.94 per hour with increases for experience, and up to $3 shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Up to $40,000 in financial support is available to advance to nursing.

Primary Duties
  • Facilitate activities of daily living (hygiene, toileting, mobility, meals)
  • Collect vital signs and daily weights
  • Conduct point‑of‑care testing
  • Turn and reposition patients
  • Perform equipment checks and exchanges

  • Dressing care
  • Removal of Foley catheter and peripheral IV
  • Nasogastric tube removal and nasal swabs

Job Description

May perform a wide variety of advanced patient‑care duties under the supervision of a registered nurse and maintain the unit environment consistent with policies.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Enhanced patient care under experienced nurse direction (advanced dressing, suctioning, Foley, IV removal)
  • Venipuncture and skin puncture for blood specimens (CLSI guidelines)
  • Daily handling of breast milk and pediatric formulas
  • Accurate documentation in patient records
  • Observation and reporting of patient condition changes
  • Specimen integrity and transport to lab
  • Assistance with ADLs, including hygiene and linens
  • Patient safety watch as assigned
  • Specimen processing and transport
  • Point‑of‑care testing and instrument maintenance
  • Equipment troubleshooting and corrective measures
  • Preceptor and mentor for new staff and students
  • Clerical duties: admissions, transfers, discharges, orders
  • Release and confirmation of ordered tests
  • Transportation coordination for tests
  • Communication with electronic records and schedules
  • Ordering supplies and floor stock
  • Coordination with food services for diets
  • Equipment maintenance (computers, fax, phones)
  • Access to non‑controlled medication areas and transport
  • Discharge follow‑up calls/coordinating virtual appointments
  • Support/assist staff with drills and quality rounds
Position Details

Unit: Advanced Acute Care Hematology

Schedule: Three 12‑hour day shifts (7:00 am‑7:30 pm) per week, including every second weekend and holiday.

Orientation: Two‑week classroom orientation, Monday‑Friday 7:00 am‑3:30 pm.

Education: High School Diploma or GED required; specialty training program graduate preferred.

Experience: Minimum 1 year of related work (preferred).
