Registered Respiratory Therapist Qualifications

Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) certification from NBRC

Minimum 1 year of hospital respiratory therapist experience

Ability to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays

Strong communication and teamwork skills

Respiratory Therapist Responsibilities

Assess and develop individualized respiratory care plans for patients

Perform and document comprehensive patient assessments

Administer aerosolized medications, secretion management, pulmonary volume expansion, and oxygen therapy

Assist with artificial airway care and maintenance

Initiate and manage conventional and high-frequency mechanical ventilators

Provide patient and family education on disease management

Assist with intra-hospital transport of ventilated patients

Manage acute airway situations and set up non-invasive monitoring devices

Collect and process arterial blood gas samples

Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA regulations

Serve as Shift Coordinator (charge person) after one year of employment

Assist in fiber optic bronchoscopy procedures and placement of invasive monitoring lines

Act as a preceptor for new staff and students during clinical rotations
