LPN-Licensed Practical Nurse-Advanced Acute Care Surgery

Job Summary

Location:

Geisinger Medical Center (GMC). Shift: Night (7 p.m. – 7 a.m.) every other weekend and holiday. Scheduled hours: 36 per week. Regular full-time position.

Geisinger offers a full-time Inpatient Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) role with a $10,000 sign-on bonus and up to $40,000 in financial support to become an RN. Additional shift differentials up to $5 for evening, night, and weekend shifts.

• Contribute data to the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care as directed by the Inpatient RN.
• Promote adaptive responses of patients or families to achieve the highest level of care, promote safety, and maximize patient satisfaction.
• Exhibit compassionate care during patient-nurse interactions.
• Coordinate patient care and staff interactions.
• Contribute data to assessments as established by scope of practice and unit standards.
• Address physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients and families throughout the continuum of care.
• Reinforce patient and family education and discharge planning throughout hospitalization.
• Provide direct patient care including treatments, medications, and diagnostic studies according to policy and procedure.
• Evaluate effectiveness of nursing interventions and plan of care based on patient response.
• Initiate collaboration with physicians, ancillary personnel, and interdisciplinary team members and take action to proactively resolve patient needs.
• Participate in unit-based decision-making regarding evidence-based practice utilization.
• Provide input to the manager for performance appraisals of care-delivery team members.
• Precept and mentor new staff and students in a professional, positive manner as assigned.
• Work in a clinical environment and comply with all organization policies and procedures.

Education:

Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Nursing (Required).

Experience:

Licensed Practical Nurse and Basic Life Support Certification.

Skills:

Ability to work under a temporary practice permit until taking the NCLEX examination.
