The Opportunity

Solid Rock Recruiting has partnered with a commercial carpentry contractor seeking a motivated, detail-oriented Estimator to join its Estimating and Sales Team.

This is an important role for someone who can go beyond completing takeoffs. The Estimator will be responsible for developing detailed and accurate estimates, preparing complete bid deliverables, supporting customer needs throughout the post-bid process, and collaborating with company leadership and operations.

Success in this position will be measured across three areas: contracts awarded, estimating productivity, and the ability to maintain strong customer relationships.

What You’ll Do

The Estimator will manage multiple opportunities while ensuring bids are complete, accurate, organized, and submitted on time. Responsibilities will include:

  • Review the estimating calendar and confirm bid dates with customers.

  • Perform an in-depth review of project plans, specifications, and RFP requirements.

  • Complete detailed takeoffs for estimate development.

  • Obtain material and subcontractor pricing from vendors.

  • Review and compare pricing for accuracy and completeness.

  • Incorporate direct costs, indirect costs, support costs, and overhead into estimates.

  • Determine appropriate labor production rates for estimated work.

  • Prepare accurate, professional, and complete RFP deliverables.

  • Participate in peer checks, bid reviews, and estimate presentations with management.

  • Follow up with customers regularly to obtain bid results.

  • Maintain positive relationships with customers, vendors, and subcontractors.

  • Track bid wins, losses, volume, and contract awards.

  • Organize contract documents, drawings, estimates, and project files.

  • Overlay revised drawings in OST and identify changes between plan sets.

  • Participate in project turnover meetings with management and operations.

  • Support post-bid questions, scope reviews, and customer requests.

What We’re Looking For
  • One to four years of experience with OST/Quik Bid, Buzz Bid, or similar estimating software
    .

  • General contractor estimating experience.

  • Construction or carpentry field experience is preferred.

  • Project management experience is preferred.

  • Strong computer and software proficiency.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and understand construction plans and specifications.

  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Proven ability to develop strong customer relationships.

  • Ability to manage multiple estimates and competing deadlines.

  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, building science, or a related field is preferred.

Who Will Thrive in This Role?

The right person will be assertive without being difficult, confident without losing humility, and organized enough to manage several active bids at once.

This opportunity is best suited for someone who is:

  • Goal-oriented and committed to following a consistent estimating process.

  • Self-motivated and willing to take initiative.

  • Organized, thorough, and attentive to detail.

  • Adaptable and resourceful when project information changes.

  • Comfortable working under pressure and meeting firm deadlines.

  • Open-minded, respectful, and willing to continue learning.

  • Capable of prioritizing work based on urgency and importance.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to become an important part of both the estimating and sales process. Your work will directly influence bid quality, customer relationships, contracts awarded, and the successful transition of projects from estimating to operations.

It is an excellent fit for a construction estimator who enjoys analyzing projects, building accurate estimates, communicating with customers, and seeing awarded work move into production.
