As a Senior Mechanical Tank Engineer, you will play a key role in the mechanical design and analysis of tanks, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers for large-scale oil, gas, and LNG projects.
Based in Darlington, with opportunities to travel to UK and international sites, you will lead design activities, supervise engineering teams, and contribute to major infrastructure programmes across the energy sector.
Key responsibilities:
Deliver mechanical design of ambient and cryogenic storage tanks, pressure vessels, and heat exchangers
Conduct engineering calculations, stress assessments, and finite element analysis (ANSYS, STAAD, Caesar II)
Prepare and check technical documents including design reports, specifications, and datasheets
Apply design codes such as API 620/650, ASME VIII, and Eurocodes
Lead and mentor other engineers and interface with design draughting teams
Support tender development, including labour-hour estimation and technical input
Ensure compliance with client requirements, project schedules, and internal quality procedures
What we’re looking for:
Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (BEng or MEng)
Chartered Engineer status (or working towards) is desirable
Strong experience in mechanical design within oil & gas, LNG, or petrochemical projects
Proficient in design and analysis of storage tanks, vessels, and thermal equipment
Working knowledge of FEA and stress analysis tools (ANSYS, STAAD, Caesar II)
Familiar with AutoCAD, and ideally 3D tools such as Smart Plant 3D, PDMS, or Inventor
Experience applying major design codes (API, ASME, Eurocodes)
