Purpose

To support the Financial Controller in delivering accurate, timely financial reporting and management accounting across the business. The Management Accountant will maintain financial controls, support cash management, drive budget and forecast processes, and partner with operational teams to provide meaningful financial insight.

Accountability

The Management Accountant is accountable for maintaining accurate and complete financial records in accordance with Group policies, UK GAAP, and statutory requirements, and for supporting the delivery of financial and commercial objectives.

Specific Responsibilities
  • Monthly Financial Reporting – prepare monthly management accounts including P&L, balance sheet and cashflow analysis.
  • Month‑end close activities – journals, accruals, prepayments and provisions.
  • Variance analysis – complete analysis against budget and forecast with clear commentary.
  • Account reconciliations – reconcile key control accounts including bank, intercompany and balance sheet accounts.
  • Group consolidation – prepare monthly consolidation reporting for Group submissions.
  • Management account packs – assist in the preparation and review for senior stakeholders.
  • Cashflow Forecasting & Cash Management – prepare weekly and monthly forecasts, monitor actuals, support collection and identify potential risks.
  • Bank reconciliations and treasury reporting as required.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting – support annual budgeting, quarterly reforecasts, financial modelling and scenario analysis, update templates and challenge assumptions.
  • Business Partnering – act as finance point of contact for operational and commercial teams, manage cost transfers, provide analysis for project reviews and contract profitability, support ad‑hoc reports.
  • Financial Controls & Compliance – ensure compliance with Group policies, maintain balance sheet reconciliations, support audit, VAT/CIS/PAYE compliance, maintain audit trails.
  • Systems & Process Improvement – maintain and optimise Business Central ERP, develop automated reporting using Power Query, implement process improvements and document procedures.
  • Finance transformation – contribute to initiatives led by the Financial Controller.
Person Specification Essential Desirable
  • Part‑qualified or qualified accountant (CIMA/ACCA/ACA) or qualified by experience
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in a similar management accounting role
  • Strong technical accounting knowledge (UK GAAP)
  • Advanced Excel skills – pivot tables, XLOOKUP, data analysis
  • Experience working with ERP systems
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Clear communicator with ability to explain finance to non‑finance stakeholders
  • Self‑motivated and able to work independently
  • Experience in construction, infrastructure or project‑based industries
  • Business Central ERP experience
  • Power Query, Jet Reports, Odata
  • CIS and subcontractor accounting knowledge
  • Experience supporting cashflow forecasting models
  • Exposure to finance transformation or systems implementation
  • Payroll processing experience
  • Process improvement mindset
