This full-time, on-site Band 7 Fetal Monitoring Midwife role is based at Darent Valley Hospital in Dartford. The post holder will provide expert clinical leadership in fetal monitoring, including interpretation of cardiotocographs (CTGs), advising colleagues on fetal wellbeing, and supporting safe, evidence-based decision-making in labor and antenatal care. Day-to-day responsibilities include leading on fetal monitoring training for midwives and medical staff, developing and delivering education sessions, and supporting implementation of national and local guidelines.

The role involves participating in multidisciplinary case reviews, promoting best practice in risk assessment and escalation, and contributing to audit, quality improvement and incident learning related to fetal surveillance. The Band 7 Fetal Monitoring Midwife will also act as a visible clinical resource, supporting midwifery teams, engaging with families to explain fetal monitoring processes, and helping ensure a high standard of compassionate, person-centered care.

• Registration as a Midwife with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) and substantial post-registration experience in maternity care, including labor and antenatal services.
• Advanced competence in fetal monitoring, including CTG interpretation, fetal surveillance, and application of national guidelines and local protocols.
• Strong clinical leadership and mentorship skills, with experience supporting and supervising multidisciplinary teams and contributing to staff development.
• Proven ability to deliver education and training, including developing teaching materials, facilitating study days, and supporting competency assessment.
• Experience in clinical audit, quality improvement, and use of incident review and data to improve safety and outcomes in maternity services.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with midwives, obstetricians, neonatologists and other health professionals.
