Overview
Nova Scotia Community College is seeking an experienced Welder to join the Faculty of Skilled Trades – Welding program as a full‑time instructor for the term beginning approximately August 24, 2026. The role involves delivering theoretical and practical shop training, classroom instruction, and mentorship to students while working within a supportive team environment and contributing to curriculum development.
Responsibilities- Deliver theoretical and hands‑on practical shop training and classroom instruction.
- Share real‑life industry knowledge and troubleshooting experience.
- Mentor and support students entering the trade.
- Help students build the skills employers are looking for.
- Promote and ensure health and safety practices and procedures are consistently followed in classrooms, shops, and labs.
- Work collaboratively with fellow instructors and industry partners.
- Stay current with evolving technology and industry practices.
- Participate in student advising, curriculum development, program promotion, committee work, and work placement support.
- Interprovincial Red Seal certification as a Welder.
- Minimum of five years (full‑time equivalent) recent journeyperson experience in the welding industry.
- Strong technical knowledge of SMAW, GMAW, FCAW, GTAW, oxy‑fuel cutting and other steel fabrication processes. A current or recently expired High‑Pressure Pipe certificate or Weld Inspection certification is an asset.
- Comfortable using computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety, mentorship, and lifelong learning.
- Previous teaching or adult‑training experience is an asset, but not required.
Faculty salaries range from approximately $78,771 to $104,267 annually, based on experience and qualifications. CommitmentsApplicants must provide proof of a valid Red Seal certification prior to starting. Faculty must complete a part‑time adult education program delivered by NSCC within the probationary period. Successful candidates will provide at least three recent occupational references and official transcripts.
