Technical Specialist, Electrical Position SummaryAs part of the AJISS Coastal Support team, the Technical Specialist – Electrical will support the Royal Canadian Navy Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV) and Joint Support Ship (JSS) class vessels under the AOPS & JSS In‑Service Support contract. The role reports to the Resource Manager – Coastal Support and is responsible for corrective maintenance, engineering changes, certification management and planned maintenance related to electrical issues, while liaising with ship staff and Fleet Maintenance Facilities.
The position is hybrid with majority of on‑site time spent in the dockyard.
This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US Export Administration Regulations. Applicants must be eligible to obtain such access.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct investigations either on board the ship while alongside or using the Technical Document Package (TDP).
- Liaise with OEMs, Service Providers and ship staff to support the investigation and resolution of defects.
- Develop Work Instructions and Statements of Work (SOWs) to support defect resolution.
- Identify inadequacies within the TDP and propose improvements/corrections.
- Support the Service Delivery team with management of Service Providers performing work on board ships.
- Provide technical advice to enable marine electrical systems and equipment to be correctly operated and maintained.
- Develop a good working relationship within Thales and the customer’s organization to ensure rapid resolution of issues.
- Support the LCMM (Life Cycle Materiel Manager) and Supportability teams with identification and assessment of alternate parts.
- Support the LCMM and Supportability teams with assessment of obsolescence issues.
- Support the LCMM and Engineering teams with activities such as development and implementation of Engineering Changes, creation of Deviations & Waivers, or surveys on board ships while alongside.
- 3‑year diploma program in an electrical field from a recognized technical institute.
- Industrial Electrician Canadian Red Seal or Military QL5 certification in an approved Electrical Trade.
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated technical professional work experience in the marine/offshore sector within the last 10 years.
- Strong working knowledge in maintenance, operation, design and troubleshooting of a wide range of marine electrical systems.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Team player.
- Fluent in English.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Previous experience or working with the Royal Canadian Navy / Canadian Coast Guard.
- Familiarity with certification requirements including Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations.
- DRMIS experience.
- Mix of office work and work in dockyards and onboard Naval Ships.
- Will be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting.
- Willing to work aloft and in confined spaces on board ships (training will be provided).
Position Requirements

40 hours per week. - Work Location:
Hybrid – will work from the Halifax dockyard (almost 100% of the time when a ship is alongside) and from home/Thales office when no ships are alongside. - Travel: occasional domestic or international travel may be required.
The reference Total Target Compensation (TTC) market range for this position, inclusive of annual base salary and variable compensation target, is between $85,000 and $120,000 CAD annually.
