Location & Hybrid WorkThis permanent, full‑time position is available in Halifax, Nova Scotia;
Ottawa, Ontario;
LaSalle, Quebec; or Victoria, British Columbia. Some onsite work will be required, but teleworking is possible for most of the role.
As a Systems Engineer with Weir Marine Engineering, you will design, integrate, and maintain the technological backbone of Canada’s next‑generation naval fleet, specifically the River‑class Destroyers. Your work will ensure the Royal Canadian Navy has the most advanced capabilities available.
Key Responsibilities- Interact with clients, contractors, operational and technical stakeholders, and the Royal Canadian Navy to understand, derive, decompose, and document system requirements for RCD Information Systems; lead workshops and conduct requirements reconciliation and tracing analysis.
- Develop high‑level architectures, define system interfaces, plan for physical integration (space, weight, power, cooling, racks, cabling), and monitor impact of new requirements on the design and testing work.
- Produce engineering artefacts such as Technical Data Packages (TDPs), Interface Control Documents (ICDs), Interface Specification (IFS) documents, diagrams, plans, schedules, use cases, and reports.
- Participate in project technical review, coordination and progress scrums, workshops, sprints, and meetings; support quality objectives through peer reviews.
- Demonstrate a 100% commitment to zero‑harm behaviors and support a world‑class safety culture.
- Engineering Knowledge Areas: Systems engineering, systems security engineering, system development life cycle processes (including ISO/IEC
15288), and requirements management and traceability. Experience in the defence industry and INCOSE certification are highly desirable. - Technical Knowledge Areas: Virtualization, cloud, IP networking, RF communication, cross‑domain solutions, big data, structured cabling, communications security, emissions security, physical security, and familiarity with combat, sensor and weapon systems.
- Project Management Knowledge Areas: Industry best practices, project management methodologies, and proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, and IBM DOORS.
- Personal Traits: Ability to work to tight timelines, work independently or as part of a team, adapt to varying technical expertise levels, deliver high‑quality written English communications, and maintain high attention to detail.
- Canadian citizenship and a minimum of 10 years of residence in Canada with no continuous absences longer than six months, required for a Secret‑level security clearance.
