Thales Canada is looking for a Life Cycle and Materiel Manager (LCMM) – Marine Electrical Specialist to support its non‑Combatant In‑Service Support Programs for the Royal Canadian Navy. This role is Hybrid in Halifax, Nova Scotia or Hybrid in Victoria, British Columbia. The LCMM – Marine Electrical Specialist is responsible for engineering support and technical oversight of Electrical Systems including Power Generation, Distribution, Propulsion, Electronic, Automation and Controls Systems.
Accountable to the Technical Services Delivery Manager and working directly with various internal and external stakeholders, this role manages activities to establish and maintain the configuration and design intent of electrical systems and equipment through their end‑of‑life and divestment.
This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US Export Administration Regulations (EAR). All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.
Key Areas of Responsibility- Perform Life Cycle and Materiel Management functions, including equipment obsolescence, material compatibility issues, alternate part investigations, maintenance management, and disposal management.
- Support and manage activities associated with the design and configuration control of vessels, including conducting functional and physical configuration audits, deviations and waivers documentation.
- Provide technical advice to enable electrical and electronic equipment and/or systems to be correctly operated or maintained.
- Monitor systems and equipment performance through reports such as Unsatisfactory Condition Reports (UCRs), Pre‑installation failures (PIFs) and technical investigations (TIs) conducted by the customer.
- Ensure proper level of spares are maintained throughout the life of the systems and equipment; support the cataloguing process.
- Conduct technical investigations into problems associated with marine electrical and electronic systems, equipment and/or software issues, including failure analysis and solution recommendation.
- Develop and review technical documentation including equipment specifications, installation and maintenance instructions, test and trials agendas, and engineering change documentation and drawings.
- Analyze requirements associated with baseline changes to the ship’s configuration, equipment and software.
- Liaise with OEMs, Service Providers and ship staff to support the investigation and resolution of defects.
- Prepare documented work scopes suitable for the solicitation of quotations from external resources such as OEMs, manufacturers, suppliers, testing facilities or specialist service providers; and
- Prepare and manage Work Packages and cost estimates for customer approval.
- Education:
3‑year technical program diploma (for Technologists) or 2‑year technical program diploma (for Technicians) in a marine electrical technical field offered by a recognized technical institute; or Certified a technologist or technician by a recognized provincial, state, or federal licensing body in a relevant field or certified body; or Certified as one of the following electrical technical trades of the Canadian Armed Forces: RQPO2 or RQPO2
USQ Marine Technician Electrical; QL 6A or 6B Marine Electrician. - Minimum 8 years of demonstrated professional work experience in the naval, marine, or offshore industry within the last 15 years.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
- Familiar with electrical safety standards.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Language:
English (Essential).
- Minimum 10 years of experience as a Technical Specialist with marine power generation and distribution systems.
- Previous experience with the Royal Canadian Navy or Canadian Coast Guard.
- Previous experience as a Life Cycle Materiel Manager in the marine electrical field.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Familiar with Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS).
