Location:
Halifax - Wilkinson, Canada. This role is hybrid with the majority of on‑site time expected in the Halifax dockyard.
As part of the AJISS Coastal Support team, the Technical Specialist – Electrical will support the Royal Canadian Navy Arctic and Offshore Patrol Vessels (AOPV) and Joint Support Ship (JSS) class vessels managed by Thales under the AOPS & JSS In‑Service Support contract. The incumbent will assist the Service Delivery and Engineering teams with corrective maintenance, engineering changes, certification management and planned maintenance changes related to various electrical issues, and will frequently liaise with ship staff and Fleet Maintenance Facilities work centers.

This position requires direct or indirect access to hardware, software or technical information controlled under the Canadian Export Control List and/or the US Export Administration Regulations. All applicants must be eligible or able to obtain authorization for such access.
Key Areas of Responsibility- Conduct investigations either on board the ship while alongside or using the Technical Document Package (TDP).
- Liaise with OEMs, Service Providers and ship staff to support the investigation and resolution of defects.
- Develop Work Instructions and Statements of Work (SOWs) to support the resolution of defects.
- Identify inadequacies within the TDP and propose improvement/corrections.
- Support the Service Delivery team as required with the management of Service Providers conducting work on board the ships.
- Provide technical advice to enable marine electrical systems and equipment to be correctly operated and maintained.
- Develop a good working relationship within Thales and the customer's organization to ensure coordination and rapid resolution of issues.
- Support the LCMM (Life Cycle Materiel Manager) and Supportability teams with the identification/assessment of alternate parts.
- Support the LCMM and Supportability teams with the assessment of obsolescence issues.
- Support the LCMM and Engineering teams with various activities such as development and implementation of Engineering Changes, creation of Deviations & Waivers or surveys on board the ships while alongside.
- 3‑year diploma program in an electrical field offered by a recognized technical institute.
- Industrial Electrician Canadian Red Seal or Military QL5 certification in an approved Electrical Trade.
- Minimum of 5 years of demonstrated technical professional work experience in the marine/offshore sector within the last 10 years.
- Strong working knowledge in the maintenance, operation, design and/or troubleshooting of a wide range of marine electrical systems.
- Strong communication skills (oral and written).
- Team player.
- Fluent in English.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Previous experience or working with the Royal Canadian Navy / Canadian Coast Guard.
- Familiarity with certification requirements including Classification Society, SOLAS/IMO, IEEE, CSA, Naval Ship Code, and DND regulations is an asset.
- DRMIS experience is an asset.
- Mix of office work and work in dockyards and onboard Naval Ships.
- Will be required to undertake inspections in machinery spaces of Naval ships involving bending and twisting.
- Willing to work aloft and in confined spaces on board ships (training to be provided).
Position Requirements
- Schedule:
40 hours per week. - Work Location:
Hybrid – will be required to work from the Halifax dockyard (almost 100% of the time when a ship is alongside) and from home/Thales office when no ships are alongside. - Travel:
Occasional domestic or international travel may be required in support of the ships or the AJISS/MWAV Enterprise.
The reference Total Target Compensation range for this position is between $85,000 and $120,000 CAD per year.
