Location:

Steele Auto Group Head Office, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Hybrid work arrangement available.

Hours:

Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, with occasional overtime required.
Wage:
Commensurate with knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Steele Auto Group is seeking a Payroll Administrator to play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our payroll operations. Working within a dedicated team and reporting to the Payroll Manager, this position is responsible for full‑cycle payroll processing for all employees, maintaining payroll compliance with federal and provincial legislation, and supporting accurate and confidential employee records. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, a strong understanding of payroll systems and regulations, and a commitment to delivering timely and precise results.

Working collaboratively with other departments, the Payroll Administrator supports the organization’s most valuable resource, our people, by ensuring they are paid correctly and on time. This role thrives in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment where accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism are paramount.

Responsibilities
  • Manage payroll processing schedule and ensure deadlines are met
  • Run payroll processing activities and execute interfaces
  • Reconcile payroll results and perform audit checks
  • Follow proper procedures for payroll sign off/approval
  • Run monthly/quarterly reports
  • Conduct quarterly balancing of year‑end totals, including researching and resolving PIER
  • Conduct year‑end balancing and filings
  • Update processing documentation as needed
  • Act as day‑to‑day liaison with dealership designated contacts for payroll‑related processing
  • Timely review and resolution of issues
  • Highlight and escalate relevant matters that may impact running the payrolls
  • Process relevant tax forms for employees
  • Participate in testing and validation as required for product updates, configuration changes
  • Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge and expertise in statutory legislation and systems
  • Process journal entries and forms such as ROE, tax forms, and remittances
  • Assist in the administration of employee programs (i.e. Health benefit, RSP)
  • Keeping employee profile data up to date
Requirements
  • Post‑secondary education with a focus on accounting
  • 3‑5 years of previous experience as a Payroll Administrator or similar role
  • PCP designation would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of MS Office, with an intermediate focus on Excel
  • UKG experience would be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of year‑end processing required for all provinces
  • Able to work under time constraints to ensure deadlines are met
