Location: Dartmouth General Hospital, Dartmouth, Nova Scotia
Role: Specialty Registered Nurse (Emergency Department)
Start Date: August 1, 2026
Schedule: 8 x 12-hour shifts bi-weekly (Days/Nights)
Position OverviewDartmouth General Hospital is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) to support its fast-paced Emergency Department. The Emergency Department operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, providing care to both adult and pediatric patients. The successful candidate will provide high-quality emergency nursing care, clinical leadership, and collaborative patient-centered services in a dynamic healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for emergency department patients.
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing interventions for patients with acute and complex healthcare needs.
- Triage and prioritize patient care based on clinical urgency and established protocols.
- Collaborate with physicians, allied health professionals, and interdisciplinary teams to coordinate patient care.
- Monitor patient conditions and respond effectively to changes in clinical status.
- Administer medications, treatments, and emergency interventions as required.
- Maintain accurate and timely patient documentation in accordance with NS Health standards.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs.
- Provide education and support to patients and families.
- Demonstrate leadership and mentorship within the clinical team environment.
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Nova Scotia prior to start date.
- Minimum 2 years of recent nursing experience .
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Experience working in high-acuity and fast-paced healthcare environments.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) certification.
- Previous experience within Nova Scotia Health facilities.
- Experience providing care to both adult and pediatric emergency patients.
- 12-hour rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Emergency Department environment with varying patient acuity levels.
- Exposure to urgent, complex, and unpredictable clinical situations.
- Onsite orientation provided upon assignment commencement.
- ACLS and CTAS certificates (if applicable) must be submitted with the application.
- Candidates must disclose any requested time off during the contract period at the time of submission.
- Nova Scotia nursing licensure must be active and verified before the start date.
- If previously employed by Nova Scotia Health, candidates should indicate the facility and department worked.
