The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) is a member of the Clinical Team, collaborating in the delivery of care to meet the needs of patients/families in the Ambulatory Clinic setting (including, but not limited to, General Gynaecology, Uro‑Gynaecology, Reproductive Endocrinology). The LPN is responsible and accountable to the public for their own practice according to the standards defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Nova Scotia and the policies, standards and procedures of IWK Health.
The LPN may, at times, be reassigned within the Childbirth & Women’s Health Care Team and will remain flexible and willing to cross‑train within the Team consistent with the philosophy, objectives, mission and vision of IWK Health. Shift flexibility is required to meet operational needs of clients served within this care team.
Monday - Friday;
Day shift
- Graduate from an approved two‑year Practical Nursing program (2‑year diploma preferred).
- Licensed by the Nova Scotia College of Nursing.
- Completed a CPR Level C Health Care Provider or Basic Life Support (BLS) course within the last 12 months.
- Recent experience with interview and health assessment skills.
- Recent clinical experience that includes administration of medication.
- Ability to teach on a one‑to‑one basis.
- Demonstrated experience assisting physicians with minor procedures.
- Knowledge of Women’s Health.
- Knowledge of Women’s Reproductive Endocrine.
- Knowledge of Women’s Pelvic Floor.
- Experience in Uro‑dynamic studies.
- Non‑violent Crisis Intervention certificate (asset).
- Experience in other areas of the Childbirth and Women’s Health Care Team (considered an asset).
- Ability to work as a member of an interdisciplinary team and to request and accept direction as required.
- Demonstrated critical thinking within scope of practice, including clinical judgement, problem solving and decision making.
- Professional manner and effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Initiative, effective time management and organizational skills.
- Commitment to professional development and skill enhancement.
- Competencies in other languages (asset).
- Experience with telephone‑facilitated care (asset).
