About NSCC Applied Energy Research:
NSCC Applied Energy Research is part of Nova Scotia Community College's (NSCC) School of Applied Technology and Innovation. We undertake research and development projects to create real-world energy solutions that accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and resilient energy future. The team partners with small- and medium-sized enterprises, utilities, governments, and communities to tackle energy challenges across Atlantic Canada and beyond.
Our teams specialize in advancing partner concepts to higher technology readiness levels.
The Energy Lab supports the design, testing, and implementation of innovative energy systems and technologies, ranging from renewable generation and energy storage to electrification, efficiency, and smart energy integration. Projects focus on practical outcomes, enabling partners to de-risk innovation, validate performance, and bring solutions closer to market. NSCC's applied research ecosystem is connected to a network of faculty, students, and industry collaborators.

What you will be doing…
Working in a team environment and reporting to the Director of Applied Research, you will:
Lead the college's Applied Energy Research team and help build innovation capacity at NSCC by carrying out applied research in partnership with business, industry and the public sector, with outcomes supporting industry capability, project-based teaching, community impact, and the commercialization of technologies.Work closely with internal and external stakeholders including other College campuses, schools and departments, industry partners, provincial and federal governments, educational institutions, and communities.Identify and lead cross-disciplinary applied research projects with business, industry and communities, engaging students and collaborating with faculty to develop and deliver applied research projects.Provide direction for the lab's service delivery model, including applied research, industry partnerships, training opportunities, and fee-for-service activities that support regional energy priorities.Oversee daily operations of the Energy Lab, including resource planning, project pipelines, funding targets, and stakeholder engagement, ensuring high-quality delivery and strong client relationships.Conduct applied research with faculty, students, and partners to design, test, and deploy a range of energy technology solutions.What you'll need

Qualifications and Occupational
Experience:
The minimum educational qualification for this position is a master degree in a discipline related to the position such as science, engineering, sustainable energy or another energy-related program. An equivalent combination of advanced education and significant experience in sustainable energy research and applied research environments will also be considered.A PhD focused on renewable energy, engineering, or another relevant discipline would be considered an asset.You have a minimum of 7 years (full-time equivalent) of recent and direct occupational experience in research related to energy. Your occupational experience includes specific experience in research grants as well as supervising, managing or leading people.Occupational experience that includes partnering with industry, government, funding agencies, post-secondary institutions, and working within a multidisciplinary environment across energy, sustainability, engineering, information technology, environmental science, and energy policy would be considered an asset.You are familiar with and comfortable using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite, E-mail and you have a strong understanding of sustainable energy technologies.You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.You are a collaborative team player who takes personal accountability for delivering high-quality outcomes and demonstrate professionalism, integrity, and respect in all interactions.
